Luigi Busa

adidas combat sports - Karate : Luigi Busa

His first worldwide medal, Luigi Busa won it in… 2003 !!! 15 years later, he was again in the final of a World championship, and still in the same category, the -75 kg ! In November 2018, in Madrid, he won his 6th World Senior medal in 7 participations ! In March 2019, in Guadalajara, he won his 12th continental medal, the 5th in gold. And to say that the most difficult, in high level sports, is to last in time…

His epic duels with the alien Rafael Aghayev has spiced mats around the world for more than a decade. But his first World title, Luigi Busa will win it in -80 kg, in 2006, his only season in this category. At the 2010 World championships, he was beaten in the final by Aghayev but he then took his revenge on him in 2012 in Paris. In 2014, he is again in the final, his 3rd in a row ! But he bows against Japan’s Tani. Trapped in the semi-finals in 2016, the Italian champion plays his 5th world final in Madrid. He lost in extremis (1-0) against Iran’s Asgari.

Since his 3rd place at the Junior Worlds in 2003, Luigi Busa has added, in all age categories, 9 world medals (including 3 titles) and 16 European medals, including 12 in the Seniors (5 titles).

At 31 (he was born on October 9, 1987), there is only one he has not won yet : the Olympic medal. And for one good reason : he has not had the opportunity so far. He will probably have it in Tokyo 2020. An Olympic podium would crown his career in the most beautiful way.
