lasha shavdatuashvili

He is the only Judoka that fears the 2016 European champion and 3th the 2017 Worlds, Vazha Margvelashvili. And his opinion is rather wise since the two friends know each other from the age of 10-11 years and have grown together at the Dojo, in Gori.
But the Georgian is obviously not the only one to fear Lasha Shavdatuashvili (U73 kg). European Junior champion in 2011, he set his benchamrks very early. In 2012, just 20 yeas old, Lasha becomes the third Georgian to be Judo Olympic champion ! And with some brilliance ! In London, he successively beat the running World champion, the Japanese Ebinuma, and the three times European one, Hungarian Ungvari. His dream has come true !
Philosopher, Lasha Shavdatuashvili sets a new goal : become Olympic champion in the upper division. As goodbye for its weight category, he wins the European championship in 2013 for his jubilee in the U66 kg division, and his second continental medal after his bronze in 2012.
In the U73 kg division, he is then adding podiums on the IJF World Tour, including two success in the Zagreb (2015) and Almaty (2016) Grands-Prix. The Olympic Games are coming right in the horizon, the Olympic rings begin to shine, Lasha Shavdatuashvili is on his good way… In the spring of 2016, he is silver medallist at the European championships ! At the same time, he wins the team title (three in total, plus three World Team podiums, including the 2013 title).
Rio. 2016 Olympics. Lasha makes a great achievement by winning a second Olympic medal in a row ! This time, it’s in bronze. Lasha lost in ¼ finals against the future winner and two times World champion, the Japanese Ono.
At the 2017 World championships, he scratched the podium by that much, losing once more against the future winner, the Japanese Hashimoto. He then failed for the bronze.
At 25 (he was born on January, 31th 1992), Lasha Shavdatuashvili has already won two Olympic medals. The Adidas Team member certifies it in a smile : « I don’t want to end my career with a single Olympic title. I am always thirsty for victories ». His opponents are warned…
