Karate - Burak Uygur : « J’ai eu de très bonnes sensations »

He is only 23 years old but he has already participated to five European finals, three in individual and two with the National team for… four gold medals ! Turkey’s Burak Uygur (-67 kg) confirms all the hopes placed in him and he is one of the big favourites for the Olympic gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

U18 European champion in 2013, U21 World champion in 2015, he moved from the youth to the Senior category as if nothing had happened. As soon as his first appearance in 2015, he climbed into the final of the European Championships, the only one he has lost so far. In front of his audience, he bows against Azerbaijan’s Aliyev. A defeat and a huge disappointment that could have affected it. No way ! Burak Uygur will be crystal clear a month later in Baku. In the semi-finals of the 1st European Games that he will win, he beats… Aliyev in front of his audience. That’s a champion’s answer !

The Turkish fighter went on to win a U21 World championship in the fall of 2015 and, then, won the U21 European championships in early 2016. This will be his last youth competition. Let’s give way to serious things… Since ? Burak became two times European champion (-67kg) and won two Gold medals with his Turkish team buddies. Ranked World N°1, he is on his way to get the only title that he misses : Senior World champion. He has already made an appointment in Madrid next November…
