Winner of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in October, Georgia’s Vazha Margvelashvili appears in great shape at the end of this year. At the Hague Grand Prix, played last weekend, he won again, this time by beating Israel’s Shmailov in the final.
He is not the only one to have realized this two wins series. Israel’s Peter Paltchik (-100 kg) also distinguished by winning both Abu Dhabi and The Hague tournaments this weekend, by dominating Belarus’ Sviryd in the final.
3rd in Cancun and Abu Dhabi, Dutchman Frank De Wit (-81 kg) is also continuing its good momentum. At home, in the Netherlands, he reached the final, dominated by Bulgaria’s Ivanov.
For his part, Lasha Shavdatuashvili, who also won the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi in October, gleaned a new podium with a 3rd place in -73 kg after his defeat in the quarter-final against Brazilian Barbosa.
Ukraine is the only nation to leave the Netherlands with two gold medals. It owes it to Maryna Cherniak, 3rd of the last European Championships (-48 kg) who won against China’s Yao Xiong and Yakiv Khammo (+100 kg), who won his final against Romania’s Simionescu.
