Huge disappointment for the two-times European runner-up (2015 and 2016) and bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics. Israel’s Or Sasson (+100 kg) was eliminated in the first round by the young Russian Tamerlan Bashaev, the U23 European champion, in the Golden Score.

« I don’t know what happened. Maybe it’s the audience, maybe it’s the tournament. I wasn’t here. I wasn’t agressive. I should attack more and believe more in myself. Something happened to me since the beginning of the fight and, then, in the Golden Score, I didn’t bring myself to fight. In Judo, if you don’t fight until the end, you can’t win. I didn’t find the power. I was really tired, maybe nervous. I do’nt know… I didn’t think about it yet.
But I am happy for my friends in the team. The one that took the gold yesterday, Sagi Muki. And Tal Flicker, bronze medalist in -66 kg, and Gefen Primo. She is a young and very good athlete. I hope my time will come the next competition. My preparation was very good. We train hard, two times every day, weights, running, Judo… Everything was perfect. But, sometimes, you can train like a champion and when you come t the fight, it’s not the same. I should learn a lot from this fight. I am disappointed because I wanted to do it here in Israel, with this crazy audience. They especially came to see me. I feel sad for them. If I want to be a big athlete, I should take this lose and keep going for the next goal and be strong ».
