Partner of the AIBA and the WBC, Adidas / Double D is at the top of the international pugilistic practice by offering products as well intended for amateurs as for professionals.
The three-band brand also supports many boxers around the world, such as Ryan Garcia, Toma LaManna, Julian Sosa, Heather Hardy or Alycia Baumgardner.
With two ranges and more than fifteen models, it is sometimes difficult to choose the glove that best suits our practice. Dinh Guiborat, one of the two boxing department managers, with Michael Arndt, guides us to the right glove.
Hello, I would like to buy some boxing gloves. What can you recommend me ?
It depends. Do you practice regularly or occasionally ? I will advise you according to your level and your type of practice and, then, we will choose the model that will be most suitable for you. At Adidas, we have two product ranges that cover all needs and all levels of practice.
For a beginner, I will rather advise a PU (polyurethane) preformed injected foam glove. If you practice regularly and you have some budget, I will guide you to a multi-layer leather glove for a greater durability.
I would like one of the latest models. What do you advise me ?
I would guide you to our Speed range, which we have completely renewed for 2018, especially in terms of design. On the Speed 200 and Speed 300, we have created a new concept for the wrist closure (the strap), in order to add protection and comfort.
We have completed this range with new products such as washable gloves, which is very innovative, and several types of accessories for professional boxing, especially for clubs.
After that, we can also look at our models of the Hybrid range, which we launched two years ago and which works really well. We have very good feedback from the market and the athletes.
And if you want to treat yourself, we are launching a customizable glove of great quality, handmade in the United States. We meet the expectation of professional boxers who want to have some customizable gloves because they have their own boxing. It is « haute couture » adapted to the world of boxing.
What are the differences between the two ranges ?
At Adidas, we chose to focus on two pillars, two types of making, materialized by our two ranges, Speed and Hybrid, each one with seven to eight models.
The Hybrid products are of a fairly classic making, with two multi-layered parts, which provides maximum comfort. They allow to have more impact when striking especially thanks to their ergonomic shape.
Whereas the Speed range is made of one piece. The fact of having a single piece better secures the wrist, which is then well supported. This glove was created and designed to optimize the speed and performance of boxing movements, in a very US style.
Preformed injected foam, multi layers… How can I understand and well choose my gloves ?
Preformed injected foam is the most commonly used. We have chosen this process to secure and strengthen our gloves. We add a layer of « Mesh » that makes the glove unbreakable.
Then, there are two processes : a manual one where the man will handle the different compounds, and the machine work which will be much more precise, therefore more qualitative.
What are the company’s ambitions for 2018 ?
To be the indispensable brand of Boxing. Our ambition is to be more and more present on the American market, which is not an easy one. We are aware of this and we are launching a very American range in terms of design.
We have gained our legitimacy thanks to the many professional boxers we work with. They wear our gloves and have allowed us to test them and, indeed, to give them their legitimacy.
