Judo : Championnats du monde par équipe à Budapest

6-0 ! Japan left no chance to the Brazilians in the final held on Sunday at the Budapest Lazslo Sport Arena de Budapest and won the 1st edition of these new mixed team World championships which foreshadows the 2020 Tokyo Olympic tournament. The concept : 3 males and 3 females successively fight in a designated order (-57 kg F, -73 kg M, -70 kg F, -90 kg M, +70 kg F, +90 kg M).

The Japanese, who fought with 3 World medallists (in the order : Yoshida, Hashimoto, Arai, Nagasawa, Asahina, Ojitani), left no chance to Brazilians as they did previously to their other opponents (5-1 against Ukraine, Germany and South Korea). On its side, the Brazilian team previously defeated Poland, Canada and Russia in the ½ final.

Korea (Kwon You Jeong, An Changrim, Jeong Hye Jin, Gwak Donghan, Kim Minjeong, Kim Sungmin) won a nice bronze medal. Except the ½ final against Japan, the Koreans were imperial. In repechage, they clearly dominated Canada.

The podium is completed by France which beat Russia in the bronze medal contest. If Axel Clerget lost the 1st round against Igolnikov, his teammates (Receveaux, Axus, Gahie, Dicko, Maret) didn’t have any problems to win their fights.

The main teaching about this mixed tournament, apart from the excellence of the idea, is that the course have changed with the participation of females. To shine in Tokyo, it would be compulsory to develop female Judo. A way that some eastern European countries didn’t take at the moment.
