A unique place for a unique event. « Le Cabaret Sauvage », in Paris, a circular saloon with a central arena, host the 3rd round of the Apollo Boxing Nights on June 2nd. In the présence of several former champions (Mamadou Thiam, Enoch Effah, Madani Hamrani…), in front of a joyful assistance, 16 boxing trainees, who survived to trials (there were 30 at the beginning), bare their soul for 3 rounds of 2 minutes.

The organizers, The Apollo Boxing Club, did everything very well. Round girls, light effects, smoke bombs, staging, music… Our 16 brave beginners knew the spotlight, as true champions, for a brief moment. They tell us about their feelings.

« I felt like a star »

« I felt very strong sensations. Just hearing shouting your name motivates you to roll deep. I felt like a star. You want to rise to the occasion. It’s very stimulating. You even feel like you are on TV with all those cams. It’s very different from training ! The ring is bigger, there is more light. I am not disappointed by the experience. I am disappointed by myself (he nevertheless won). I trained 4 times a week for 3 months, all my friends came et, on the 2nd round, I was toasted ! I wanted to be technically perfect. But, you realize that, to do 3×2, you need stamina. »

« It puts you under stress… »

« It’s really impressive ! It puts you under stress. I didn’t expect such an ambiance. It’s great ! I don’t realize it yet. But I feel like doing it again, even if I lost. It was really nice to live it so, with a little more experience, it should be awesome. The stake did not concern victory or defeat but still… Each fighter thinks of victory. So I am disappointed to have lost. I am going to draw the conclusions and train more ».

Vanessa « Bagheera »

« It gives fighting spirit »…

« It’s a great shot of adrenalin. It gives great sensations. It gives fighting spirit and energy. Before the fight, I looked forward to go, not because of stress but because I wanted to see each other’s fights (she laughs). I usually things in a cool way. This experience has to be renewed. To win is of course a satisfaction because you have achieved your goal. It gives confidence”.

Thomas « Boul’T »

« We get jet ! »

« (He breaths) It’s really amazing ! We get jet !  We are totally disconnected. I think that fighting in front of assistance is very addicting. It has nothing to do with training. Before the fight, the stress rose crescendo. But our coachs put us in good conditions, physically as well as psychologically. It’s a kind of experience to be renewed. It gives very nice sensations. Moreover, we please our friends ».

Arnaud « King Charly »

« The 1st strikes… It wakes you up ! »

« When I came in the ring, I thought everything would be OK. When you start fighting, your mind empties. But, when the 1st strikes come… It wakes you up ! I am quite disappointed because I did not do well my job. Nevertheless, it’s a great experience with the atmosphere, all these light effects and smoke bombs.

To get nosebleeds destabilized me. You feel like you are vulnerable, in a weak position. It’s not so good for confidence. I was too defensive, I underwent too much my opponent, I did not move enough. Usually, I feel a lot better. To win was not a priority but, if I had won, I would have been happier. I would have loved to offer a victory to all my friends and family who came with banners. But, anyway, it was great !”.

Joachim « Jojo »

« It’s worth it ! »

« It’s an incredible feeling to fight in front of so many people. Everybody is shouting. When you are tired, you friends push you. I have never known such sensations even if I practised many team sports/ But, when you are alone in front of somebody who wants to cut you apart…. It’s not the same!

If I can make it again, I will, but not soon. I am going to take time. We trained 4 to 5 times a week for 3 months. It’s really worth it ! Even if I had lost, I would have loved it.”
